Prevention and Treatment of Youth Sport Injuries
an Online Resource

Lightning injuries can be prevented by the use of a device such as a “Sky Scan” to detect lightning strikes in your area. The NATA recommends that sport activity cease when lightning or thunder is observed. There is no longer a flash-to-bang ratio as there previously was as instituted in 2000, and any visual observation of lightning or audible recognition of thunder is considered dangerous and fatal. If a lightning strike is observed athletic play may resume 30’ after the most recent strike.
