Keep wounds sterile, initially disinfect with peroxide however do not continually use peroxide as it will also kill good tissue. Always keep the wound clean using alcohol, disinfectant, and soap and water, but let it breathe occasionally when in a sterile location to allow a proper scab to form. If there is a large laceration or puncture then it may be appropriate to apply compression and proceed immediately to the emergency room. If an Athletic Trainer or other qualified individual is near they may apply steri-strips or sutures to minimize bleeding and scarring.
