Fractures

Prevention and Treatment of Youth Sport Injuries
an Online Resource

Fractures are a common form of injury in adolescent athletes. The two main classifications of fractures are open (break the skin) and closed (inside the skin) factures. Either are treated with immobilization of a brace or cast as administered by a physician. The trend is to use braces as opposed to casts when appropriate to allow for limited passive range of motion as opposed to the complete immobility provided from a rigid semi-permanent cast. As directed by a physician the athlete should remember to continue light activity when it is pain free to prevent the excessive buildup of unwanted scar tissue.
