Neurological (Burners/Stingers)

  1. Common Injury typically received when contact forces compression or stretching at the neck. Pain and/or numbness may radiate into the arm.
  2. Symptoms typically subside quickly within a few minutes spontaneously. Ice may still be applied for comfort and to reduce irritation to damaged surrounding soft tissues.
  3. Your Athletic Trainer or doctor should be notified when you think you have had a burner or stinger as they may be able to evaluate whether there is a more serious underlying condition.
  4. If symptoms do not alleviate quickly or worsen abruptly then 911 should be contacted because there may have been serious damage to neurological or vascular systems.
